Frequently Asked Questions

How far in advance should I book to see peak foliage?

We recommend booking 4-6 months in advance. Our departures sell out quickly as these dates consistently offer peak color. Late September through mid-October provides the best chance of seeing brilliant reds, oranges, and golds across multiple states.

What if the foliage peaks early or late?

Our tours are scheduled based on 30+ years of historical foliage data to maximize your chances of peak viewing. While Mother Nature can vary year to year, our routes cover multiple states and elevations, ensuring you'll see spectacular colors regardless. We also adjust daily routes when possible to chase the best displays.

How much walking is involved?

Our tours are rated "Comfortable" activity level. You'll walk less than 1 mile total per day, mostly on level, paved surfaces. Most foliage viewing happens from the comfort of the coach through large panoramic windows. All walking portions are optional—if you prefer to stay on the coach, you're welcome to do so.

What's the weather like in fall, and what should I pack?

New England weather is quite the character, changing its mood throughout the day and night. One moment, it’s sunny and delightful, and the next, a sudden gust of chilly wind catches you off guard. We suggest utilizing your favorite weather app to plan and dress accordingly. Daytime temperatures range from 55-70°F (September) to 45-60°F (October). Mornings and evenings can be chilly (40-50°F). But since it’s New England, there could also be the occasional hot day, so we recommend layers: long-sleeve shirts, light sweaters or fleece, a waterproof jacket, comfortable walking shoes, and a warm jacket for cooler days.

Can I travel solo?

Absolutely! Many of our guests travel solo. You'll have plenty of opportunities to socialize with fellow travelers during meals and excursions. Single rooms are available at the single occupancy rate. We do not offer a roommate matching service.

What's your cancellation policy?

A deposit of $200 per person is due within 7 days of reservations being made. Final payment is due 45 days before departure. All payments will be refunded in case of cancellations made more than 45 days before departure. Upon booking, we will send confirmation outlining booking and payment details. We accept check, Visa or Mastercard.

Are dietary restrictions accommodated?

Yes. We accommodate vegetarian, gluten-free, and most common dietary needs. Please inform us of any restrictions when booking. While we work closely with restaurants to meet your needs, please note that some remote locations may have limited options. Vegan and highly specialized diets may require advance planning.

How large are the tour groups?

Our groups range from 28-32 travelers. This size provides a friendly, social atmosphere while ensuring personalized attention from your tour director. You'll get to know fellow travelers without feeling lost in a crowd.

What photography opportunities will I have?

This trip is very photogenic! We make frequent photo stops at scenic overlooks, covered bridges, lighthouses, and mountain vistas. Your tour director knows the best angles and lighting times. The coach has large windows for photography while traveling. We recommend bringing a camera with a zoom lens and plenty of memory cards.

Is travel insurance recommended?

We encourage the purchase of a Travel Protection Plan to help protect your investment, your belongings and most importantly you! Northeast Unlimited Tours makes the Tour & Travel Protection Plan easily available. For complete details and to purchase the plan, click Buy Travel Protection

What's included in "taxes and gratuities"?

All local taxes, hotel service charges, and gratuities for hotel staff, restaurant servers, and local guides are included. The only gratuity not included is for your tour director and motor coach driver, which is at your discretion. Industry standard is $6-8 per person per day for the tour director and $4-6 per person per day for the driver.
