Canada's Atlantic Coast beckons to all of your senses.
The fragrance of sea salt in the air, the crack of lobster
shells and tunes from ancient fiddles, the sweet burst
of flavor from our orchards, and the heat of morning sun
and softness of afternoon rain all tell the story of our
home, our people, and our land. Come and explore Canada's
Maritime Provinces!
DAY
1: Halifax
Welcome to Nova Scotia! Your professional tour director
and private deluxe motor coach will greet you and welcome
you with some of Nova Scotia's legendary hospitality!
Start your day with a guided city tour of Halifax, a
city proud of its' Naval history and loyal to its' British
Heritage. See Citadel Hill, the Public Gardens, and
the Cemetery where Titanic passengers now rest. Your
hotel this evening is the beautiful Lord Nelson Hotel.
Located in the heart of downtown Halifax, you're perfectly
located to enjoy all Halifax has to offer! Join your
travelling companions today for a "Welcome"
dinner this evening. (D)
DAY 2: Halifax - Moncton, NB
Rise and shine! After a tasty breakfast at your hotel
this morning, head for the Maritime Museum of the Atlantic
and learn of the Maritime history of Atlantic Canada.
Exhibits share stories of the Royal Canadian Navy, Days
of Sail, shipwrecks and lifesaving, the Titanic, the
Halifax Explosion, the Age of Steam, and the restored
ship chandlery of William Robertson and Son. The museum
also displays Canada's first hydrographic vessel, CSS
Acadia. Then it's off to Peggy's Cove, home of one of
the world's most photographed lighthouses. This fishing
village is famed for it's picturesque and typically
East-coast profile, with houses perched along a narrow
inlet and on wave-washed boulders facing the Atlantic.
Although this unique environment has been designated
a preservation area, it is still an active fishing community.
Here you can enjoy lunch on your own and take some stunning
photographs to brag about back home. This afternoon
we leave Nova Scotia and head for Canada's Picture Province,
New Brunswick. The drive to your next stop will take
you through some geographically diverse and beautiful
landscapes. Of particular note are the Tantramar Marshes,
acres of protected wetlands that go on forever! Tonight
you'll check into the Ramada Crystal Palace hotel in
Moncton for two nights. This evening is at leisure to
take advantage of the dining and shopping options that
surround your hotel. (B)
DAY 3: Moncton
Following breakfast this morning, make the picturesque
drive the world famous Hopewell Rocks! This is where
the tides of the Bay of Fundy, the highest in the world,
have carved four-story sculptures from the cliffs. At
low tide, they look like flowerpots; at high tide, they
disappear, leaving little tree-topped islands in their
place. This is the only place where the Bay of Fundy
tides are interpreted. Exhibits help visitors better
understand the unique Fundy ecosystem as well as the
culture and history of Albert County. A little farther
up the road, we pay a visit to Le Pays de la Sagouine.
Created from internationally renowned novelist, playwright
and Acadian author Antonine Maillet's imagination, Le
Pays de la Sagouine is the island where Acadians celebrate!
It is alive with theatre, music, comedy and dance that
allow visitors to discover the unique Acadian culture.
Our afternoon takes us to visit one of the few remaining
great sand dunes on the northeast coastline of North
America, Les Dunes de Bouctouche. The white sand dune
more than 7 miles into a habitat for a rich variety
of marine and aquatic plants and animals. This is also
a favourite stop for shorebirds and migratory birds.
Interpreters who are trained biologists will present
a program on the dunes. And finally, to put a perfect
end to your day, spend some time with the folks at Shediac
Bay Cruises. Savour the ultimate lobster experience
out in the Bay; haul in a lobster trap, learn cooking
techniques, observe a cracking demonstration, and savour
a complete lobster dinner. Return to your hotel in Moncton
for another good night's sleep. (B,D)
DAY
4: Moncton - Charlottetown, PE
Today we head for Prince Edward Island, known by the
Mi'kmaq Indians as the "land cradles in the waves".
Cross the Confederation Bridge, joining Borden-Carleton
in Prince Edward Island with Cape Jourimain in New Brunswick,
Canada. Spanning the Northumberland Strait at its narrowest
point, the bridge measures 8 miles long. On the island
side, you're welcomed at the Gateway Village. Specialty
shops feature Island treasures and tasty treats. Pay
a visit to Cavendish Figurines or perhaps grab a Cows
Ice Cream - yumm! Then begin a full day of Island fun.
Visit the Anne of Green Gables House. Built in the mid-1800s,
the house was once the home of cousins of Lucy Maud
Montgomery's grandfather. Their farm inspired the setting
for her fictional novel, Anne of Green Gables. The house,
grounds and farm outbuildings portray the Victorian
setting described in the novel. At Prince Edward Island
National Park, see some of the finest salt water beaches
in Canada. A blend of sand dunes, red sandstone cliffs
and heritage abound has made this park a popular one.
Your arrival in Charlottetown starts with a visit to
Province House National Historic Site, where Canada
was "born", home to Confederation. Visit Founder's
Hall, a 21,000 square foot heritage attraction that
transports visitors back in time to the Charlottetown
Conference in 1864. With the use of multi-million dollar
technology, holo-visuals, multi media interpretation
and interactive displays, visitors are lead through
a journey of Canadian History. Visitors arrive back
in present day Canada with insight into our past and
a feeling of pride in our future. Check into the Holiday
Inn Express Charlottetown and enjoy an evening at leisure.
Perhaps you would like to take in a performance at Confederation
Centre of the Arts; located in the heart of historic
Charlottetown, the Centre is Canada's National Memorial
to the Fathers of Confederation. (not included). (D)
DAY5: Charlottetown - Wolfville, NS
Your hotel features a deluxe continental breakfast,
a great way to start your day. We're heading back to
Nova Scotia today, and it's a travelling day. Make your
way out of Charlottetown this morning head for the Wood
Island ferry to Nova Scotia. Cross the Northumberland
straight and arrive in Caribou, Nova Scotia. The you'll
set off on the beautiful drive to Wolfville. Set at
the mouth the Bay of Fundy, on the Nova Scotia side,
Wolfville is a quaint town that is central to many of
the attractions of the Annapolis Valley. Your home for
the next two nights is the Old Orchard Inn. Enjoy a
delicious dinner here tonight and relax for the evening.
(CB,D)
DAY 6: Wolfville and the Annapolis Valley
Today begins with a delicious breakfast, and then we're
off to the Grand Pre National Historic Site. Grand Pré
commemorates the Acadians and their Deportation in 1755.
This 14-acre site features formal gardens, various statues
and monuments, a 19th-century blacksmith's shop and
a stained-glass window depicting the Deportation. Some
of you may remember Longfellow's poem "Evangeline"
- this was the setting for her tragic story. Gaspereau
Vineyards is located in the centre of Nova Scotia Wine
Country and is one of several exciting Nova Scotia wineries.
The vineyards of Gaspereau Vineyards were once an apple
orchard. Planted in 1996, the 35 acres of vineyards
thrive on the south-facing slope with ideal soil and
climatic conditions. Nova Scotia has the ability to
produce grapes with excellent sugars and acid balance
needed to create outstanding wines that compliment Nova
Scotia's bounty from land and sea. Continuing our gastric
journey, we arrive at Blueberry Acres, where you'll
find rows and rows of high bush blueberries laden with
giant, sweet fruit. Your visit will include a tour of
the fields and visit to the processing plant. Here you'll
also enjoy a sumptuous "Farewell dinner",
and enjoy the best bounty that Nova Scotia has to offer.
