ITINERARY:


Day 1 - Saturday, August 14                 

Welcome to Boston & Coastal New England!
Welcome to Boston’s Logan International airport to begin our Islands of New England adventure! Transfer via hotel shuttle to the Four Points Hotel by Sheraton for a three night stay. Receive a warm greeting by our Northeast Unlimited Tours tour director.  This evening, enjoy a wine & cheese reception followed by a delicious welcome dinner.

DAY 2 - Sunday, August 15                

Portsmouth & Isle of Shoals
This morning depart for the coastal town of Portsmouth, NH.  Portsmouth, once one of the world’s busiest shipbuilding cities, is rich with history and filled with wonderful Gregorian, Colonial and Federal style architecture. Set sail on a scenic narrated cruise to the Isle of Shoals.  Explored by Captain John Smith in the 1600’s these Isles became famous for their large schools of “shoaling” fish. Fisherman flocked to these tiny islands and at one point it was the richest settlement of the new world. Over the centuries, these rugged Isles claimed fame with pirates, ghosts and buried treasure. Along with the first grand summer resort hotel, a famous poetess and her beautiful gardens and an “infamous” murder. The moonlight murder of Smutty nose is the basis of a New York Times bestselling novel and major motion picture.  Enjoy some free time to explore the Island along the scenic paths and inlets.  This afternoon return to the mainland and enjoy free time in Portsmouth for lunch and shopping.  Later, enjoy a traditional New England lobster bake before returning to our hotel.

DAY 3 -
Monday, August 16                

Boston’s Freedom Trail & Boston Harbor Islands
This morning, enjoy a guided tour along the famous Freedom Trail viewing many famous sites including the Old North Church, Boston Common, the Public Garden, "Cheers" pub and the USS Constitution, better known as "Old Ironsides". Enjoy free time in Quincy Market’s Faneuil Hall for lunch on our own.  This afternoon, set sail for a scenic cruise throughout the Boston Harbor Islands, where we’ll experience the geology and rich maritime history of the islands narrated by a National Park Service ranger.  Upon our return, enjoy a delicious Italian feast at one of the North End’s famous Italian Restaurants!

DAY 4 -
Tuesday, August 17

Newport, RI & Breakers Mansion
This morning we’ll journey to Aquidneck Island, more commonly known as Newport, Rhode Island - America’s first resort and yachting capitol of the world.  Enjoy a tour along the magnificent Ten Mile Drive, for a step back in time to the opulent era of the Gilded age where elite families such as the Vanderbilt’s and Astor’s built their “summer cottages” to retreat from the city life.  After our tour, enjoy time along the waterfront for lunch on own and shopping.  This afternoon, tour the grand dame of all the Mansions - The Breakers. This 70 room Italian style Renaissance-style villa was built by Cornelius Vanderbilt II. Check into our Newport area waterfront hotel and enjoy the remainder of the day at our leisure.

DAY 5
- Wednesday, August 18 

Martha’s Vineyard Island

This morning, bid farewell to Newport and depart for New Bedford where we’ll board our ferry to Martha’s Vineyard Island.  Located 7 miles off coastline, set sail and enjoy a scenic cruise to this enchanting Island.  Once an early refuge for coastal ship traffic, it blossomed into a whaling community in the 18th and 19th century and evolved to what is now a popular resort destination of today.  Explore the diversity of its island towns, take a walk along our pristine shores, and step back in time to a more leisurely pace.  Enjoy a guided tour of Oak Bluffs which is noted for its collection of small Carpenter Gothic cottages clustered in the Methodist Camp Meeting Grounds, and Edgartown, known for is stately Greek revival homes built by sea captains of years ago. Enjoy a return cruise to Hyannis (Cape Cod) after a full day of sightseeing. We’ll be met by our motor coach and transfer to our Cape Cod Resort for a three night stay.

DAY 6 - Thursday, August 19     

Nantucket Island
This morning board the ferry to the Island of Nantucket, fondly known as “The Gray Lady”.  Once the whaling capital of the world in the 1800's, it’s evolved into a popular vacationing spot for the wealthy. Enjoy Nantucket’s charm with   its cobblestone main street, narrow roads, simple Quaker-style homes and handsome houses dating back to the whaling days of the early 19th century.  Enjoy a guided tour of this beautiful island with views of sandy beaches, historic lighthouses, charming villages and well as many other natural wonders. Enjoy some free time to venture through the many charming shops and galleries before returning by ferry back to the mainland.

DAY 7 - Friday, August 20            

Cape Cod to Provincetown & Optional Dune Tour
Today will be spent exploring the coastal beauty of Cape Cod. Visit the Seaside village of Chatham and enjoy free time to stroll through the charming galleries and shops along the main street and make a picture stop to the Chatham Light. Continue on to the Cape Cod National Seashore for a visit to the Salt Pond Visitors Center and enjoy the spectacular views of the Atlantic Ocean.  Arrive to Provincetown for time on our own to explore America’s oldest art colony, it is rich with heritage, history and wonderfully eclectic galleries and shops. This afternoon, you may choose to take an optional excursion: an exciting ride throughout the dunes of the Cape!  Enjoy a delicious lobster dinner this evening.

DAY 8 - Saturday, August 21       

Hyannis & Sandwich, Depart for home

This morning before saying farewell to Cape Cod, enjoy a tour of Hyannis with a picture stop to the JFK Memorial and Korean War Memorial overlooking beautiful Veterans Beach.  Continue touring through Sandwich, Cape Cod’s oldest town, with views of Shawme Pond, Dexter Grist Mill and Sandwich Village. Return to Boston’s Logan International Airport by approximately 12:30 P.M where our tour ends with lingering thoughts of our Nation’s Heritage and treasured memories that will last a lifetime!
